Understanding N-Spec's Singularizer Feature

The Singularizer feature in N-Spec helps patent practitioners manage multiply dependent claims by automatically converting them into equivalent singly dependent claims while maintaining the broadest possible scope.

When to Use The Singularizer:

  • When preparing applications for jurisdictions that don't allow multiple dependencies
  • To reduce fees associated with filing large numbers of claims
  • When converting a foreign application with multiple dependencies for US filing

For Example: If you have a claim that depends from "any of claims 1-3", the Singularizer will determine which of claims 1-3 your claim should depend from, in order to preserve clarity in the claims (e.g., if this claim further defines a feature initially mentioned in claim 3, this claim must depend from claim 3), as well as to maximize claim scope.
