N-Spec accepts different file formats depending on the type of document you're uploading. Here's what you need to know:
Specification/Claims Files:
- Preferred format: .docx (Microsoft Word)
- Also supported: .pdf
- Note: .docx files generally provide better results as they allow for more reliable text extraction
Drawing/Figure Files:
- Preferred format: .vsdx (Microsoft Visio)
- Also supported: .pdf, .pptx (PowerPoint)
Why .docx is Preferred:
- More reliable text extraction
- Better preservation of document structure

- Improved claim parsing accuracy
Common File Format Issues and Solutions:
1. Document Structure Issues
- If you encounter errors, try saving your document again as a fresh .docx file
- Alternatively, copy all text and paste into a new .docx document
2. File Access Issues
- Close any open documents before uploading to N-Spec
- For Windows users: You must close the document before re-uploading it
- For MacOS users: You can keep documents open while uploading
3. Large Documents
- N-Spec can handle specifications up to 100+ pages
- Larger documents may take longer to process
- Complex documents (e.g., those with many mathematical equations) may require additional processing time
